These mechanical water flow meters work by calculating the speed of flowing water running through the pipe that causes a turbine or piston to rotate. The volumetric flow rate of the water is proportional to the rotational speed of the blades. The water flow detector detects the vibration of the pipe when fluid is flowing. If the material and fluid are suitable, an ultrasonic sensor could look for Doppler signals, and a Hydrostatic pressure level can detect the water flow.
