President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the police and military to kill those who violently resist inspection at checkpoints as the election period draws near.

Duterte issued the directive on Wednesday evening following his visit to the wake of Ako Bicol party-list Representative Rodel Batocabe, who was shot to death by unidentified men last Saturday in Daraga, Albay.

I am placing the entire Armed Forces na assigned dito and the police to maintain law and order.

So now if there is a stupid idiot there on the loose, guguluhin niya o create a world of violence. Huwag ninyong gawain yan kasi mahirap, he said, as he asked for understanding with regard to security checkpoints.

Checkpoints, you'll just have to bear with it. There will be checkpoints. Tapos I have ordered it to be mobile. They can set it up anywhere in the city. Please do not violate the law because you will be arrested, he said.

The President said he will not allow political terrorism, oppression and intimidation to take place in light of the upcoming May 2019 midterm elections.

He also recommended to the Commission on Elections to place Daraga under its control.

Batocabe was set to run for Daraga mayor in the midterm elections but police said initial probe has yet to establish that the killing was politically motivated.

He then hinted at ignoring possible criticism from human rights groups of his latest directive.

Duterte said authorities will provide security for everybody, including those who will be attending campaign rallies and meetings.
