Welwyn Hatfield Council say they're constantly looking at new ways of being innovate with their 27 CCTV cameras.

It comes as government figures show they spent £83,000 on the system in the last year.

The budget for the current financial year has been increased to £99,000, but it's still less than some neighbouring areas.

Councillor Bernard Sarson, who is Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Partnerships, said: "The council has recently linked the CCTV control room with the shop radio system in our towns.

"This has really helped make it quick and easy to alert the Police to crimes and to share the information".

Cllr Sarson continued: "It's excellent value for money, for tackling things like fly-tipping. We have also had an incident of moped riders smashing shop windows.

"Because of CCTV, we were able to identify numberplates and the direction that the suspects travelled in."
