Braiding is an ancient hairstyle: Egyptian women wore it on their wigs, African women attached it to their scalps and still do, and it is also a characteristic part of Central American and African American culture.

Although several have dared to use this hairstyle in recent times both with independent braiders or in salons, there are still many doubts regarding its materials, care, and discomfort. In this regard, various important aspects that you should consider before getting African American braided wigs.

1. You must prepare your hair:

It is not usually common to prepare the hair before braiding. However, experts recommend taking some steps, especially for those with damaged or delicate hair.

It is recommended to apply natural moisturizing treatments a few days before, such as masks, and natural oils, such as organic coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil.

2. There is more than one material:

Synthetic or extension Wigs for black women are tied (braided) into the client's hair. From that point forward the hair extension will look much longer than it is, depending on the length of the braid. Meanwhile, the client must not only select the length of their braids, but also the material and color.

3. It must have a suitable length for braids:

Another important point is the length of the hair. Well, the longer, the material can hold for longer. In this regard, it is recommended that if it is straight, the ideal length (minimum) would be 8 centimeters and, if it is wavy, curly, or Afro, 5 centimeters more or less.

4. It usually hurts:

One little-known aspect of braiding is that it can be very painful for some people with sensitive scalps. It also depends on the "hand" of your braider, since if it is not gentle (or pulls too hard from the base of the hair), it can irritate.

5. Washing and drying:

A very important aspect of braiding is its hygiene. Experts recommended that Short braided wigs need no more than 3 washes per week at most and dry shampoo and oils should be used in case of allergic reactions.

The thread is the one that takes the longest to dry (and usually weighs as it contains moisture), silk and synthetic hair take much less time.

It is important to maintain good care. Use only shampoo diluted in water or vinegar. Do not use conditioner and, very importantly, dry it well after each wash.
