F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is now available on the public domain, and the audience wants to watch the adaptation of the novel in the Muppet-style.

The Great Gatsby is set on Long Island in the Jazz Age. The story follows Nick Carraway’s character and his interaction with the millionaire Jay Gatsby. The plot majorly revolves around Gatsby’s obsession to reunite with his lover, Daisy Buchanan.

The author got his inspiration for the novel from the parties he attended on Long Island’s North Shore in 1922. In 1925 the novel was published by Scribner.

During World War II, the novel was rediscovered and critically re-examined. The Great Gatsby soon became a core part of the high school curriculum and focused on the popular culture of America. After that, the novel is then adapted as a film and stage play numerous times. And the most popular adaptation of the novel is the 2013 Baz Luhrmann’s version starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, and Jason Clarke. The adapted version collected a gross of $353.6 million against the budget of $105 million. 2013 The Great Gatsby won the Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

The plot of the story depicts layered capitalism, class, and social commentary. However, now the availability of the book has become very easy as the retailer of Fitzgerald’s novel made the novel available on the public domain. Hence the creative people can use the story without paying for the copyright.

According to the NPR article, on every New Year’s Day, a new batch of works becomes available on the public domain. And after 95 years, all American books, songs, and movies lose their copyright over the content, and the material becomes available without paying any charge. Now since the studio does not have any copyright over the novel, people want to see more adaptations of The Great Gatsby.

However, some particular audiences are demanding a Muppet version of the novel, and the idea is quite exciting. Some fans have gone far and also have proposed the title of the Muppet show as “The Great Gonzo” and reimagined the book’s green light as a Kermit-style Batman signal.

There are plenty of speculations regarding the adaptation, and the Muppet version’s demand is growing in popularity. The stage portrayal of the novel with Muppet will be fun with a singular human in Nick Carraway’s character. As the character is the only outsider of the high brow society and the Muppets will depict the high society elite people.

The Muppet adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic story is surely highly accepted and appreciated. The cultural icons of the Muppet-like Miss Piggy, Fozzie, and Kermit will be fun to watch in the different characters of The Great Gatsby. Since Walt Disney owns the characters, it will be up to them to create the Muppet version of the novel.
