Hundreds of cyclists will strip off and pedal through London completely naked in an annual protest campaigning against car culture and celebrating the human body.

The World Naked Bike Ride in London will see scores of nude cycling fans parading through the streets of the capital on Saturday.

The quirky event is part of a global movement, with nude rides scheduled to take place from Chicago to Canterbury.

The group is protesting dependency on oil and cars and campaigning for more rights and safety regulations for cyclists which, they argue, is a particularly pressing issue for London.

“In London our problem with motor vehicles is not just private cars,” the capital’s event page says.

“Much of the threat to cyclists, along with the oil burning, pollution and congestion in Central London, comes from taxis, private hire vehicles, buses, coaches, vans, delivery vehicles, articulated lorries, tipper trucks, and people travelling in company cars on business.

“What do those drivers have in common? They are all clogging up our streets because they are paid to be there and someone else is picking up the costs.” The ride is also a day where attendees are encouraged to celebrate body freedom and diversity, with people encouraged to go “as bare as you dare”.  Although riders are asked not to “exercise your right to nudity in London before the ride or spend an unnecessarily long time dressing at the end”.

The ride will start from five different start points in London – Tower Hill, Regents Park, West Norwood, Hyde Park, Clapham Junction and Kew Bridge.

They begin at different times throughout the afternoon and riders have the option of taking part in shorter or longer routes – which all end in Hyde Park.
