However, you can categorize surf boards as soft boards, long boards and short boards at Surf Forecast. If you are new to surfing, than go for soft boards because they are more stable and comfortable for beginners as the boards are made up of soft foam and therefore they are always floating on the water and prevent any injuries if the surfer is not able to balance himself on the surf board while practicing. Soft boards are generally longer in length because they provide greater stability. Long boards are best when you have mastered soft boards. You would usually find an intermediate surfer having a long board because they are comparatively heavier than the soft boards. The length of long boards are usually almost the same as soft boards because it provides more stability to the surfer but the weight of the long board is something that the surfer has to manage on its own. Intermediate surfers prefer heavier surf boards which are made up of fiberglass.
