Civilizations around the world have been celebrating New Year’s Eve for many years. Celebration starts early in the evening of 31st December and continues till early morning of 1st Jan. traditionally people attend parties, eat special New Year food and watch amazing fireworks. January 1 becomes New Year’s Day for the Roman emperor. As part of reform Caesar instituted January 1 as the first day of Year. Janus Roman God of beginning is the main idea behind January 1 as New Year’s first Day. Romans celebrated by offering sacrifices to Janus, exchanging gifts with one another, decorating their homes with laurel branches and attending raucous parties. In medieval Europe, Christian leaders temporarily replaced January 1 as the first of the year with days carrying more religious significance, such as December 25 (the anniversary of Jesus’ birth) and March 25 (the Feast of the Annunciation); Pope Gregory XIII re-established January 1 as New Year’s Day in 1582.
