Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday, January 17, revealed he has asked the Commission on Elections to allow him to be exempted from the gun ban due to alleged threats to his security.

According to Trillanes, hindi nawala ang threat kasi the moment na pinagplanuhan kang patayin, aantayin na lang (ang) opportunity.

But in a press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo dismissed Trillanes fears as a figment of his imagination, calling him an illusionist.

Hindi nga siya pinapansin, he said.

The Commission on Elections said any individual who wishes to be exempted from the gun ban must apply for a certificate of authority before the Comelec Committee on Ban on Firearms and Security Personnel.

The Comelec said the gun ban took effect on Jan. 13 and will last until June 12.

Any individual found violating the election gun ban will be arrested and charged for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, the Comelec said.
