Mark William Calaway, commonly known by his WWE pseudonym “The Undertaker,” recently spoke to the People about his ongoing struggle to get away from the ring for good. He also revealed how he feels about the “30 Days of the Deadman” tribute.
Speaking about the tribute, he said that though he is very humbled and proud of it, he has had enough of himself in the last three decades, and he just does not want to take himself seriously anymore. However, he is well aware that his career has been so staggering that it feels surreal now. He reckons that having a career for almost 30 years in any field is something that anyone should be proud of.
He honestly spoke on how it is difficult for him to get away from showbiz. He said that if you work hard on something for so many years and at the end of it when you get that salute or anything from the audience, the electricity that it feds back is surreal. He believes that every wrestler misses that magical chanting that the audience sings when you enter the arena. He thinks that’s why wrestlers like The Rock came back to WWE despite the fact that they are already successful somewhere else. After having worked there for almost 30 years, The Undertaker feels that WWE is the best form of sports entertainment. He compared the world of wrestling entertainment to a live movie where you will never have the stuntmen, and you cannot forget your lines.
Though WWE has an immortal fanbase, Calaway still feels that the wrestlers should be credited more for what they do.
He also addressed the criticisms that skeptics always have about the WWE (some people call it a “fake reality show”). He accused the skeptics of having an ill-conceived prejudice about World Wrestling Entertainment. He called such people outside the fan base as ignorant and expressed his displeasure over the insinuating names they have given to the industry over the years. The Undertaker called out such people for their ignorance and said that they are unaware of the sacrifices that people in this industry had to make to survive.
Just in case you are unaware, WWE is currently selling “The Undertaker 30 Years Collector Box Limited Edition” as well.
“30 Days of the Deadman” is a tribute special produced by the WWE Network in honor of the incredible career that Mark William Calaway has had, which spans over the course of 30 years. He first made his appearance at the arena in the 1990 Survivor Series when a funeral director named Paul Bearer introduced a man named “Undertaker” to the entire world.
His dark and uncanny appearance quickly found some love from the fans, which did grow in an unbelievable proportion over the years. I cannot speak much about his wrestling career here. Just know that he has defeated almost everyone in the ring, including legends like Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, John Cena, and Goldberg.
Some people have done such remarkable work that their name is well known to even those people who have no idea about the work they have done. I am speaking about people like Albert Einstein, Jane Austen, Alfred Hitchcock, Lionel Messi, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Tom Cruise, etc.
As far as The Undertaker is concerned, go to a room full of people and turn off the lights before ringing a bell; even a five-year-old would know what’s coming.
