A TV series titled “Clarice” based on the character Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster) in the film will not feature the menacing cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. So, you can officially forget about Anthony Hopkins featuring in the TV series. “The Silence of Lambs” fans will not be happy to know that their beloved serial killer will not appear in the CBS series “Clarice.” The sequel series, which has been inspired by Jonathan Demme’s onscreen adaptation of the novel having the same title penned by Thomas Harris, will, to the utter dismay of fans, confine itself to the character Clarice and it will not feature Hannibal Lecter in any form whatsoever. There will not even be a mention of the character due to the fact that they do not have the rights. The new report has emerged courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. MGM in the company of Dino De Laurentiis Company currently has the ownership of the IP of the character named Hannibal Lecter. And maybe that is why the series cannot generate the same excitement it would have had had there been Anthony Hopkins or even a new version of Hannibal Lecter in it. Alex Kurtzman, who is the executive producer of the film, has revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he does not know the details of the deal that divides the ownership between MGM and Dino De Laurentiis. However, that is quite liberating for the production team of Clarice because they were not keen on touching Hannibal Lecter. After all, he has already been shown in the best ways possible, so to embark again on that will not be a fresh idea. Nevertheless, the series will feature some characters which were not seen in the Hannibal series, which ran on NBC for three seasons. The characters include Clarice Starling herself, a menacing killer Buffalo Bill, Ardelia Mapp, Paul Krendler, etc. The series will also have some other differences from its past iterations. The series will pick up the events a year after the events of Demme’s film concluded. The series is likely to feature some real-life events during that time, including Waco and Ruby Ridge sieges and bombings at the World Trade Center.
