The ensuing season to the first season of “His Dark Materials” has recently ended (in the United Kingdom at least), and it has generally been met with positive reviews. Fans of the series want a third season for the fantasy series, and they want it to end the series in an iconic manner.

The second season of “His Dark Materials” has been concluded on BBC in the United Kingdom. However, if you are someone living in the United States, you might have to wait for two more episodes before you can wrap your head around what the season was all about.

Please do not worry as there are no spoilers here. Jack Thorne, who is the writer of the series, was asked a lot of questions on Twitter and one of them being about the inevitable third and final season of the series. It was evident from the tweets that the fans are keen on watching the third season as the second season has enthralled them to their bones.

From Thorne’s comments, it seems as if nothing is confirmed about the third season. However, Thorne and his colleagues have already submitted their treatment for the third season. Now, as things stand, the final decision is awaited.

“His Dark Materials” is an onscreen adaptation of the series of books written by Philip Pullman. The third book in the saga is titled “The Amber Spyglass.” It is the longest of all three novels, so some might even suggest that it is better to split the novel into two seasons. However, Jack Thorne wants to follow the design that has already been agreed upon.

He replied to the question about dividing the book into two seasons by saying that the story has been nicely divided into eight episodes. As we know, the writers had to work overtime to stretch the first two short novels into two full-fledged TV seasons. The Amber Spyglass would need no extra effort, and it would naturally fit into an eight-episode TV space without needing much effort from the writers.

The main question is, however, whether the creators will get the go-ahead to finish the saga. The audience has decreased in the United States for the series, but as far as the United Kingdom is concerned, the show is performing spectacularly well. Well, part of the reason is the fact that the books are hugely popular there.

That means it will all depend on HBO to pull off season 3 because the American audience generally banks on that streaming service. Considering the budget of the series and special effects involved, BBC cannot go alone with Season 3.

Let us see what happens.
