When Mob Psycho 100 was released back in 2016, it soon became a sensation and took the anime world by storm. The first Original Video Animation was released after the conclusion of season 1 of the show. It was followed by season 2 and another OVA. These OVAs have nothing to do with the original storyline, and they were independent content that was a good source of entertainment for fans waiting for the next season.

Mob Psycho 100 Reigen – The Miraculous Unknown Psychic

The first OVA of Mob Psycho is basically a recap of the story from Reigen’s perspective. Mob is forced by Reigen to write about their adventures together which culminates into an overview of the first season. The story is being retold from Reigen’s perspective with his voiceover even though Mob is writing the story. It’s a hilarious spin-off of season 1 of the show, which feels like a long recap episode. It is just as entertaining as the original season of the show, and it can even be argued that it is better in some ways.

The Reigen OVA is a great way to prepare for season 2 of the series. Not only does it introduce viewers to all the crucial plot points but it also includes all the epic fight scenes that the viewers would love. The essence of the first season is not lost in the OVA and the viewers who have never watched the show can still enjoy the next season with a clear understanding of the story to that point. Moreover, the OVA is merely an hour long and it comes straight to the point without wasting much time. It’s a fun and easy way to prepare oneself for season 2 of the series’s action and drama.

Mob Psycho 100 II

Unlike the first OVA, The Spirits and Such Consultation Office’s First Company Outing is more of a bonus episode following the second season. It focuses on the employees of Spirits who are investigating the rumors of the parallel world. En route to the hot springs, Serizawa and Reigen fall asleep and are teleported to the parallel world where new challenges are waiting for them.

On the other hand, Ritsu and Mob are not affected in any way as they continue their journey to the resort safely. The OVA shows the contrasting views of Reigen and Mob on the hilarity of the situation that they are in. While Reigen is having a tough time and is exhausted, Mob, at the same time, is having the best time of his life. The stark contrasts between their situations are entertaining to watch and work very well.

Both OVAs are well-made and should not be compared. They are perfect in their own ways and should be watched for their own respective reasons. Mob Psycho fans should definitely not miss out on them since they will give a new way of looking at the series. The second OVA is full of extra content so it has a ton of things that those who have watched the entire series might like. So, in conclusion, the two OVAs are unique and therefore do not need any comparisons. They should be watched as they are exceptionally well made and contain extra content for the fans.
